Much has been written about the Yucca Mountain nuclear repository, which most are saying is dead in the water because funding for it has ended.

Congress has been grilling NRC Chairman Jaczko about what some are calling foot-dragging over the Yucca Mountain decision, and, from what I gather, whether delays in a final NRC vote are politically motivated. Jaczko says the project is DOA and is quoted as having told Congress:

“The fire marshal doesn’t tell the developer to still go out and keep building so they can conduct their licensing application. That is the situation we have,” Jaczko said. “It would be a tremendous waste of taxpayer dollars to continue to review an application for which there is no applicant.”

OK, so now what do we do with the high-level nuclear waste?
