MIT students have a nice, informative weblog on

Information about the incident at the Fukushima Nuclear Plants in Japan ….Maintained by the students of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT

Honing their blogging skills is a great idea, given the paucity of future jobs for students getting degrees in nuclear science engineering. We need a lot more smart, technically trained people going into science journalism (and politics, to boot).

Actually, it seems likely that MIT graduates will find jobs in their chosen field, here working more on clean-up and nuclear waste storage problems, as opposed to new plants. But there are nuclear engineering programs at a lot of schools. What will these graduates do? For some, it might behoove them to look to changing majors. I recommend environmental engineering (whatever that is).
