Some folks are saying  that Japan is a wealthy country and is busy printing money to get through the current crises. That’s one reason why it might be better to help those who know how to coordinate relief efforts, rather than have too many people there tripping over each other.

Further, giving too much money to the huge number of groups that want to help may end up

hobbling relief organizations and ensuring that they have to leave large piles of money unspent in one place while facing urgent needs in other places.

and we don’t want

a mess of uncoordinated NGOs parachuting in to emergency areas with lots of good intentions, where a strategic official sector response would be much more effective.

So, there are those who are advocating giving to organizations such as MSF (Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières) and/or the Red Cross.
