We’ve seen the recovery, and everyone around the world is happy these miners were saved. There are some important lessons here.
One lesson: society is really good at addressing discrete, acute problems such as this one. But not so good at long-term problems such as global climate change. Some problems just are not so clear-cut.
Lesson two: hey, the experts have a real role! I didn’t see the news media playing one set of experts off on another, did you? There were different plans, indeed, and as I recall it was the Plan B approach that eventually prevailed. But no-one said the other plans were no good, or came to criticize those making the effort.
By extension: Maybe we do need to listen to people who really have knowledge about something when it comes to addressing our problems, instead of political hacks who run around saying we should distrust scientists!
