What a letdown to learn that Astroturf and others were using large amounts of lead in their artificial turfs because
The lead was added to the synthetic grass to keep its color bright
One can only wonder at how these companies might have thought this practice was good for the bottom line. We’re talking children here, who very well could eat small pieces of this stuff (both the fibers and the rubber granules beneath them that give the turf its springy feel).
It seems the manufacturers have seen the light (oh, the wonders of legal action!) and are going to get the lead out.
I wonder if this stuff would be considered hazardous for disposal purposes.
