Now’s the time to strengthen the regulations, since  a judge has nixed the temporary ban on offshore drilling.

Among other requirements, the regulations should require a proper relief well at the same time and place as any deep sea oil well. What the heck, the oil companies can afford it.

While the judge’s ruling is under appeal, such new regulations should be put in the system. There are lawyers who will want to be fed, so, of course, this will have to be done exactly as the laws and regulations require, and it will take a finite time. But we need to get these matters in …. er … the pipeline, so the time to accomplish better safety can be kept as low as possible.
