Business as usual will not be the way of the future. For example, Bobby Jindahl wants to not let up on the oil drilling so as to staunch job losses.
But what we need is a paradigm totally different than the “growth is progress” one we have become used to. It’s just not sustainable, because there are not sufficient resources to go around.
Many of the jobs recently lost are not coming back. We need leaders with a vision of how to adapt to a far lower level of consumption than in the past. Louisiana, much less other states, are not going to be able to drill or produce their way out of the current mess. It’s not a matter of lowering expectations (although some might see it that way). It’s a matter of modifying them.
