The BP oil leak brings up an important question: ought not key company executives include at least one person with some serious environmental engineering expertise?

Here is BP’s lineup at yahoo finance, and here is their board of directors. Heavy on MBAs and geology (and at least one British knight), but I don’t see anyone with a specific environmental engineering background.

(Environmental engineers come in different stripes. Here, I’m thinking of one with expertise in pollution and pollution control. For a few million dollars a year, I’m reasonably sure I could have helped kept them out of trouble in the Gulf. Heck, I’d have done it for a whole lot less!)
