Today’s Washington Post has an editorial endorsing the Obama administration’s plans to promote nuclear power, noting also that the president has

proposed increasing the size of the federal loan guarantee program for building nuclear power plants from $18 billion to $54 billion

The conclusion I’ve come to is that this approach is primarily a jobs program. It will create a lot of construction jobs, regardless of how things unfold (i.e. whether the plants ever come on-line).

The approach surely will get a lot of money moving in the economy. There’s a lot of concrete and steel in a nuclear power plant.
