Rob Young and Orrin Pilkey argue in Yale360 here that we should plan on a sea level rise of 7 feet. They recommend, among other things:

Immediately prohibit the construction of high-rise buildings and major infrastructure in areas vulnerable to future sea level rise. …

Relocation of buildings and infrastructure should be a guiding philosophy. …

Stop government assistance for oceanfront rebuilding. …

Get the Corps off the shore….

Local governments cannot be expected to take the lead. …

Some of these recommendations just make too much sense. By “Get the Corps off the shore,” they explain that we can’t have the “can do” engineers in charge of something for which engineering fixes do not apply.
