It seems the Canadian government has shut down some web sites critical of Canadian environmental efforts, put up by the parody group, the Yes Men, as reported by the Seattle Post Intelligencer here, which writes:

Stung by a satire at the Copenhagen climate conference, Canada’s government has shut down two parody Web sites criticizing the Great White North’s glacial policy on global warming.

The Yes Men chronicled some of their pranksterisms in Canada in a press release, here, going through details of the spoofing they’ve been doing, which includes, more or less, impersonating Canadian government officials.

It seems rather quixotic that the Canadian government took all this so seriously, getting the ISP to shut down the parady sites, which will likely just move to other ISPs. Now there’s renewed interest in both the Yes Men, and probably the issues they seek to address, what with all the free publicity the Canadian government has now garnered for the Yes Men through such moves.
