I had a chance some years ago to visit the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima.

The Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima

It’s a sobering site. The official Japanese website for the museum is here, and there’s some good information on the museum here.  It’s worth looking through the official site, especially. It’s all done with real purpose, and is as if you were walking through, reading each of the signs while viewing each display.  It’s not so huge that it takes a really long time to do a virtual visit; the guided tour (here) is quite nice.

The museum is surrounded by the burgeoning metropolis of Hiroshima.  You’d never know what happened, except at the site some remnants of a church and other structures remain as they were after the bomb.  Cenotaphs.

School children are brought there from all over Japan, so it’s a very busy place.  It’s highly recommended as a way to reflect on what’s really important, and what’s at stake in many things the world needs to accomplish.
