The Tesla Motors Model S Sedan is taking shape, and they are in the throws of trying to get a federal infusion of hundreds of millions of dollars to help get them going.

While this is a cool car, at Environment Memo we do not think that the future at all lies with automobiles.  As I wrote in Wired Magazine a while back:

We need fewer cars, not better ways of keeping them on the road….building effective public transportation networks tied to appropriate land-use planning would accomplish far more

The paradigm is shifting under our feet. People do not want to be stuck in their cars in traffic, electric, ethanol or even Fred Flintstone powered.
