In case you haven’t heard, the World Wildlife Fund is asking

individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions.

In the US, this hour of darkness will begin Saturday, March 28, 2009, 8:30 pm local time.

It remains to be seen how this will go. They seem to be taking things a bit too far when they say that

Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming.

Despite best efforts of WWF, a lot of people just will not know about this campaign, and so will not turn off their lights. The result could be a backfire, with the ranters and ravers taking these as votes “for global warming.” It would have been better to just focus on the numbers who actually hear about the campaign and respond.
