Here at Environment Memo, we are going to point out some unsustainable practices that need fixing, in hopes of promoting ideas on how to address them.

For example, I recently stayed in a budget hotel at which one can get one’s own breakfast.  The kitchen area had a waffle maker that was on high heat, whether or not it was in use.  We see a lot of appliances with these features, such as bagel toasters with moving belts at bagel shops.  They are on all the time, wasting energy.   What should we do?  Contact the manager?  Contact the firm that makes the appliance?  Unplug it where possible?  Leave a note?
